The Sanibel-Captiva Chapter of Solution to Avoid Red Tide hosted its 7th annual “Cracker Fest” fundraiser on November the 6th. This unique event raises support and awareness for water quality and conservation issues while celebrating our state’s cultural heritage. This year’s event consisted of an evening of dining, dancing, and the company of friends and family under the stars. Guests enjoyed silent and live auctions with unique items, games, and the live music of The Apple Butter Band. The meal consisted of “cracker-style” dishes, such as hog BBQ, fried mullet, shrimp and grits, collard greens, swamp cabbage, and biscuits with seagrape jelly. The annual Cracker Fest fundraiser is a favorite for locals, if you missed this year’s event be sure to keep an eye out for next year’s celebration in early November 2016.
