Last month we reported that START’s Chairman, Sandy Gilbert, was one of several keynote speakers at a press conference held in Sarasota to protest legislation aimed at weakening fertilizer restrictions. We are pleased to announce the legislation was defeated by a majority of senators on the Environmental Preservation and Conservation Committee. This was due in part to the opposition from environmental groups and city and county officials who traveled to Tallahassee to defend their local ordinances.
Fertilizer restrictions have been adopted by 64 Florida local governments to keep nutrients from washing into local waterways during the rainy season and contributing to harmful algae blooms.
START sincerely thanks all those concerned citizens who worked so hard to defeat this legislation.
