The Florida legislature is now in session. Have our law makers heard from you about the need to address the nutrients in our waterways that feed red tide? If not, they should and often.
The medium of choice should be email as many letters don’t get read by the targeted policy maker. Instead send short emails making a statement about some aspect of water quality and it will get recorded by staff as a pro water quality communication.
Subjects that require action include:
Eliminating the polluted releases from Lake Okeechobee
Providing more funding to help local governments to:
Upgrade wastewater treatment plants
Convert more septic systems to sewer
Improve the efficiency of stormwater holding ponds.
Eliminate herbicide spraying in our waterways that create more algae growth
Whatever your particular concern about improving the water quality in our waters, now is the time to speak out while our law makers are actively engaged in setting new policy. You can reach Governor DeSantis at https://www.flgov.com/email-the-governor/. President of the Senate, Bill Galvano, will be reached at Galvano.bill.web@flsenate.gov. Local Senator, Joe Gruters, can be found at gruters.joe.web@flsenate.gov. Representative Will Robinson is located at Will.Robinson@myflorida.com and Representative Margaret Good will be found at Margaret.Good@myfloridahouse.gov
Your support for the preservation of our waterways is much appreciated.
