Questions About Your Pond

Are you having trouble with ailing stormwater detention ponds with unsightly algal growth or worse costly eroding banks? If so, you should contact us to schedule a screening of our Healthy Pond PowerPoint presentation. It will show your community how to properly care for your ponds to minimize algal growth and help prevent costly bank erosion.

It’s also possible for you to get a grant to help cover the cost of the native aquatic plants that are necessary for a successful pond enhancement. Grant requirements include:

The establishment of a No Mow Zone around the perimeter of the pond that is at least 8 inches to 12 inches tall and at least 3 feet wide

Installation of native aquatic plants covering at least 30% to 50% of the Littoral Zone (shallow water) of the pond

Use of the Best Practices for irrigation and fertilizing

Agreement to reduce the use of chemical sprays (Copper Sulfate) in and around the pond

If your ponds are a concern, let us know at colleen@start1.org and we can help.
